WORLD HEPATITIS DAY.

July 28th 2024 is World Hepatitis Day and the day when we are all reminded of the two very preventable infections commonly known as Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C, both of which affect the liver and can cause serious damage if left undiagnosed and untreated.

There are thousands of people in the UK living with undiagnosed hepatitis B and C, which can lead to chronic liver disease and liver cancer. Early detection and treatment are essential in preventing what can ultimately lead to severe health issues.

We, in the RVH Liver Support Group, are joining with the many organisations in helping to make the general pubic aware of these preventable diseases. These can cause chronic liver disease which may eventually lead to the need for a liver transplant.

We urge those who work in a likely environment where possible infections may occur, and active gay men, to get the test which is available through the GP network or indeed within the Genitourinary Medicine  (GUM) clinic on level 3 in the Outpatients Building in the RVH.

There is currently a VACCINE for Hep B for those not previously infected and effective medical interventions for  both Hep B (if needed) and Hep C.
